Idukki arch dam

                       For Keralites, Idukki is synonimous with power generation because a lion share of the state's  power is generated by the hydroelectric power station at Moolamattom,the biggest in the state.The famous Idukki arch dam, the first of its kind in India,is built between two granite hills 'kuravanmala'(839 feets) and 'kurathimala'(925 feets) across the  river Periyar.This is the world's second and Asia's first arch dam.This prestigious project of the nation situated in Idukki district and its underground Power house is at Moolamattom which is about 22 km from Thodupuzha. Idukkki dam is 43kms away from Moolamattom.

                 The possibility of Hydroelectric development at Idukki was first conceived in 1919. According to history  Shri Karuvellayan Kolumban,the head of ' Araya ' tribe , during 1922 showed the way to the Malankara Estate Superintendent and his friend Thomas,the spot of present arch dam.The project harnesses a major portion of the  power potential of Periyar,the largest river in kerala,by the creation of a reservoir of 2000 M.cum capacity.The installed generating capacity of the power house is 780 Mw consists of six units of 130 Mw each.The Idukki reservoir is formed by three dams such as Cheruthoni,Idukki,Kulamavu.
                          Ramakkalmedu is the cradle of the wind. It is a hill station and a hamlet.The hilltop offers a panoramic view of Tamilnadu towns of Cumbum,Theni,Kombe,Thevaram.It believed that lord ' Sree Rama' had set his foot on this rock and the name Rama-kal-Medu.One story says that lord Rama kept his feet at the tip of Ramakkalmedu to search Ravana the king Lanka  who abducted his wife Sita.        

                  Anchuruli is a wonderful picnic spot at Idukki. It is an extension of Idukki dam and situates in the back side of the dam.The name Anchuruli is derived from five small hills visible in water  when the water level is low and these hills resembles five inverted vessels.

                          Panchalimedu offers tourists a wonderful view of an unending stretch of valleys and hills.The cool climate and refreshing breeze is a specialty here.The place offers an ethereal atmosphere.There is a small temple dedicated to Bhuvaneshwari.The Makarajyothi can be witnessed from Pachalimedu during Makarasankranthi  days.
                      Chinnar is one of twelve wildlife sanctuaries among the protected areas of Kerala.The place is regarded as one of the unique protected areas in the whole westerns ghats due to its ecological,floral,geomorphologic and cultural significance.This 90 square km wild life sanctuary situates in the middle of Eravikulam  National park to the south,Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary is to the north and Kodaikanal Wildlife sanctuary is to the east.The breathtaking cascade is a major tourist attraction.The Chinnar  and Pambar rivers are the major water resources in the sanctuary.

                          Mussoorie is a charming city in the Dehradun district of the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand.It is located about 35 km from the state capital of  Dehradun and 290 km north from the national capital of New Delhi.It offers a wonderful view of the Himalayan snow ranges.Mussoorie is a gateway of " Gangotri" and " Yamunotri" shrines of North India. Yet an another  place of interest in the town is Depot Hill ,Popularly known as "Lal Tibba".The name,Mussoorie is derived from plant of mussoorie.Which were found abundance here.This town has strong and rich Hindustan culture.This charming hill station is situated at an altitude of about 2003 Meters above sea level.Hindi and English are the two widely spoken languages in this hill station.

                                  Mussoorie was discovered by captain Young ,a adventurous military officer in the year 1827.The Badrinath, Kedarnath,Bandar-poonch,sri kantha Nanda Devi peaks can be seen from here.
